Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, former president and respondent in an electoral sabotage case, has a simple wish for her 65th birthday: unity.
“It is my fervent hope that we will be truly united in the pursuit of long lasting happiness and prosperity,” she said in a press statement.
Arroyo turns 65 on April 5 and may likely spend it in detention.
“Let us pray so hard that wounds will be healed soon, with faith and resolve to help one another and move as a nation towards a brighter future," Arroyo said.
She has been under hospital arrest at the Veterans’ Memorial Medical Center since being moved there from St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City in December.
Before she was arrested in November, Arroyo tried to leave the country for medical treatment but the Department of Justice barred her and issued an arrest warrant for a separate case.
“May the divine providence protect our country and all Filipinos from any calamities, disasters and hardships that may come our way,” Mrs. Arroyo said.
