Top amusement parks in Asia 2012

You don't have to go half way across the globe to experience wicked roller coasters or wet and wild adventures with the kids in water parks - some of the best spots are right here in Asia.

Universal Studios, Singapore

Barely a year old but very popular amongst tourists and locals alike, Universal Studios Singapore is home to rides and shows based on television programs and movies like Battlestar Galactica, Shrek, Madagascar, Jurassic Park and The Mummy. A recently launched attractin is TRANSFORMERS The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle, which, many guests say is the best ride in the theme park to date.

Ocean Park, Hong Kong

Located on the south side of Hong Kong Island, Ocean Park highlights include four giant pandas, an aquarium, a roller coaster that goes up to 48 miles per hour and an array of haunted houses during Halloween.

Sunway Lagoon, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

While Sunway Lagoon is a multi-complex that includes a wildlife park and an extreme sports park, it is probably best known for its water park where you can learn to surf in their surf pool, whiz down the six-lane water slide, or just float on a tube and bask in the Malaysian sun.

Tokyo Disneyland

With as many as 26 million visitors annually, it's no surprise that Tokyo Disneyland ranks as the busiest theme park on Earth. This means you will have a 100-minute wait for a 3-minute Fantasyland ride. But it doesn't mean you should avoid it - the Japanese' love for Disneyland is infectious and makes you want to zip-a-dee-doo-dah around the park. Be sure to try Winnie the Pooh's Honey Hunt Ride while you're there. It's different from its same-named cousin in Orlando - this ride, exclusive to Tokyo Disneyland, features a track-free, magnet-driven honey pot drives you randomly through different rooms portraying a dream of Winnie the Pooh. Your pot even hops around with Tigger.

Siam Park City, Bangkok

With a jungle safari boat ride, roller coasters, a tower with a panoramic view of Bangkok and ridiculously cheap admission fees, you thought you had it all in this theme park. That is, until you discover a spa within the theme park that mothers will welcome with wide open arms.

Waterbom Bali, Indonesia

If Bali's beaches don't impress you (and with the hoards of tourists the spot gets, it's no surprise), seek salvation in a tropical waterpark right in the heart of Kuta where grown men become little boys again amidst the 3.8 hectres of water slides and good family fun.

Everland, Yongin, South Korea

With 8.6 million visitors Everland is not only South Korea's largest theme park, it was also ranked tenth in the world for amusement park attendance in 2007. Along with its main attractions, Everland also includes a zoo and a water park known as Caribbean Bay.
