ALA Promotions to take legal action vs Mexican agent
MANILA, Philippines – ALA Promotions is planning to take legal action against Mexican boxing agent Hugo Correa, who sent the wrong boxer for the main event of Pinoy Pride XII last Saturday in Bohol.
Filipino featherweight Rey "Boom-Boom" Bautista was all set to fight Genaro "Poblanito" Garcia, a veteran boxer with a record of 38 wins and eight losses.
Instead, Correa sent Genaro "Panterita" Garcia, who reportedly holds a record of 10 wins and 11 losses. Bautista ended up knocking out "Panterita" in two rounds.
"We are taking legal action against the person behind this act of deceit," ALA Promotions said in a statement released to PhilBoxing.com.
"Integrity, which we have upheld for decades, is of utmost importance to ALA Promotions as we owe all this to our TV network partner, our sponsors and most importantly to the public."
Bautista retained his International Boxing Federation (IBF) international featherweight title in the main event bout.
But ALA Promotions chief executive officer Michael Aldeguer decided to turn Pinoy Pride XII into a free public event due to the mix-up in opponents.
Aldeguer noted that ALA Promotions suffered "a huge financial blow," explaining that they cannot "short-change the public after what happened."
"The VIP tickets are already sold out, but they can just go to the CPG (Carlos P. Garcia) Sports Complex counter to get a refund," Aldeguer said.
Aldeguer will also give “Panterita” his fight purse.
Pinoy Pride XII was attended by at least 30,000 fans.
